How to Make a Candy Gingerbread House

Chad Daw
In today's hustle and bustle world, making a gingerbread house can be a time consuming project that we simply do not have the time to complete. The original ginger bread recipes take time, patience, and templates in order to get the house to look right. An easier way, that takes less time and patience, is the graham cracker house. Once again, though, it takes templates in order to get it right. The third way, which is the fastest and easiest, is to purchase a gingerbread house and use the pre-made templates and frosting. This type of gingerbread house is easy to make, very inexpensive, and can be decorated in any manner that you wish. This type of gingerbread house can be assembled in six easy steps, as follows.

Step 1: Prepare the Icing

Knead the bag of pre-made icing for a minute until it is a soft consistency, resembling a basic toothpaste texture.

Step 2: Cut the Icing Bag

In order to use the bag to spread the frosting properly, cut a small piece of one corner off, leaving around a quarter of an inch hole.

Step 3: Arrange the Pieces

On a table or counter arrange all the house pieces so that you can easily use the frosting to lay a foundation for the house. Use the tray that was included in your kit, or use a piece of wax paper, and line it with a strip of frosting where the walls will be erected. On the rough side of the front and back panels, squeeze a layer of frosting along the outer edges.

Step 4: Erect the Walls

Starting with the back panel, stand the walls up into place, pushing them down into the icing to help hold them up. Erect the other three walls in order, pressing them together so that the frosting can act as a glue.

Step 5: Put Icing on the Peaks

Run a small bead of frosting along the peaks of the roof and lay the roofing panels on top of it, once again pressing down so that the frosting forms a seal.

Step 6: Decorate

Use the remaining frosting to decorate the house any way that you wish. You can follow the suggestions that are included in your kit, or you can be inventive and use your mind to create any type of house that you find appealing.

Making a gingerbread house used to be a chore that required lots of time and patience, but with the kits that are available today in any grocery outlet store, it can be accomplished in less than an hour. It still gives you the amazing eye piece that it once did, but without the time and hassle that used to be involved in building one.
