Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Create a folder named Pwnage on the desktop. Save a copy of the device firmware (3.0) in that folder.
Step 2: Launch the iTunes application.
Step 3: Perform a DFU restore on the device to get the iBSS and the iBEC. Follow the instructions for the DFU restore found on this page. How to switch your iPhone device to DFU mode
The iTunes application will display a message stating that a device in the recovery mode has been detected. Click on the OK button. Press down on the key for Option. Click on the button labeled Restore.
Step 4: Select the appropriate IPSW file from the folder (Pwnage). Click on the button labeled Open.
Step 5: The device will begin to restore the firmware (3.0). A warning stating that the process will erase all data on the device will be shown. Don't click the button labeled Restore.
Open a Terminal window.
Type in this command:
while x=1; do nohup cp -vr/tmp/PersonalizedRestoreBundle. */Firmware/dfu/*~/Desktop/Pwnage/ 2>/dev/null;sleep .1s;done
Press the Enter Key.
Step 6: Go back to the iTunes application. Click on the button labeled Restore.
Keep watch of the open Pwnage Folder while the restoration for the device's DFU mode is being performed. Two files will appear in the folder: (iBEC/iBSS).n88ap.RELEASE.dfu
Step 7: Once both required files are in the folder, switch to the open Terminal. Stop the script by pressing Ctrl + C.
Step 8: Once the process for DFU restore process has been completed, the iTunes application will prompt the user to either restore from a backup file or set the device as new. Select the option to restore the device using the backed up settings. Click on the button labeled Continue to finish the restoration process.
Step 9: The iBSS and iBEC files for the device have now been captured. Move the files to a safer location for future use in jailbreak processes for the device.
