How to Capture and Paste a Screenshot without Installing Screen Capture Software

You can easily capture anything on your screen without installing screen capture software. You can then paste the screen capture in any kind of graphic editor or word processor. In this guide, I will show you how to capture your screen and paste the capture in a graphic editor or word processor.

You have what are called "Hot Keys" on your keyboard that can be used to capture your screen. These hot keys are CTRL ALT Print Screen. Holding CTRL and ALT down while pressing Print Screen will capture anything on your screen. So, let's give it a try.

Open something that you want to capture. This could be a website, program, your desktop, email, or anything else. Once you have it opened, you will need to hold the CTRL and ALT keys down on your keyboard. While you have them pressed, you can press the Print Screen key and then let go of all three. It is kind of difficult if you are trying to capture the screen with one hand, so try using two. With your left hand, hold down CTRL and Alt. With your right hand, press Print Screen. That seems to make it a lot easier.

Ok, now your screen has been captured and it is now in your clipboard. You will need to open the graphic editor or word processor you want to use to paste this screen shot. Once the are fully loaded, you can press CTRL V on your keyboard. The capture will then be pasted. It may take it a second to paste since it is an image. If you are using a graphic editor like Fireworks, InkScape, Photoshop, or something like that, you will have to create a new document to work on before you paste.

In some programs, you can also click Edit > Paste at the top of the program. That will normally paste the screen capture. So, now you know you can easily capture your screen without using any kind of screen capture software. So, why would you want to use a screen capture software? Because, if you needed to edit screen captures and are pasting them in a word processor, you will not have that option. So, screen capture programs come in handy if you are taking a lot of screen shots. But if you only do the occasional screen capturing, CTRL Alt Print Screen will work just fine.
