How to Get Your Car Fixed Cheap

Everyone loves a bargain. If you can get something without paying full price for it that makes everyone feel great. There are many things that you purchase that you may be able to get a better price on if you know how to shop around and find the deals.

Car repairs can be expensive, it's not so much the parts that cost money, but the labor can add up to be more than the parts themselves. With the newer engines doing car repairs yourself on your own vehicle is now basically a thing of the past.

You can get better deals on repairs if you take the car to the local college. Many local colleges or trade schools have auto repair classes and are usually in need of vehicles that needs repaired so that the students can work on real vehicles while training.

How can you save money with this? Well you pay for the parts, and the labor is generally free. Your vehicle will be the guinea pig for the class, and the teacher is usually right there beside the students walking them through each step of the process. They have learned the book stuff of doing repairs but need vehicles to practice on, this is where you can help by taking your car there for repairs. This is a great place to get a deal on engine, transmission repairs or bodywork.

The schools usually have up to date equipment that they use so that the students can train for real jobs with and they also have the knowledge of the teacher who usually is a mechanic or auto body-man themselves.

Students will do engine, transmission repairs, and some schools will have body-shop classes where they will be allowed to do the bodywork and the painting of a wrecked or damaged vehicle at a substantial savings to you. Bodywork is expensive as is painting a vehicle most shops will charge a minimum of $35 an hour just for labor costs, that doesn't include the price of parts which will also be marked up from the shop also. As you can see it can add up quickly even for a minor repair job for bodywork.

Before taking your vehicle into the shop you may just want to check out your area schools to see if they have classes and accept vehicles to repair. Start with the high schools then check with the colleges and trade schools. It may take you a little longer to get your vehicle back but the savings may be worth it.
