This will show you how to make a Cheer Bear costume, but you can change it to any Care Bear you wish with a different belly symbol and different colored sweatsuit. No matter which Care Bear your child likes, this pattern will work for all. First, you will want to purchase pink sweat pants and a matching pink hooded sweatshirt. It is important that the sweatshirt have a hood on it so that you can attach ears.
Cut to ears out of white felt. The size of the ears you cut will depend on the size of the child that will be wearing the costume. To attach these ears to the costume, you have a couple of options. You can either hot glue the ears, or sew them on with a couple of simple stitches. Some people are scared off when you have to sew, but there are other options out there for you.
Cut a circle out of white felt to attach to the belly of your costume. This is where you will decorate and add your own character symbol. Every Care bear has a different symbol that they represent. In this case, Cheer Bear has a rainbow on her belly. Or, you could fashion a rainbow on paper that your child could color in, and glue it to the felt. Once you have decorated your Care Bear's belly, attach it to the sweatshirt.
Paint your child's face with white face paint, usually sold in the Halloween section of your local retail store. Test your child's face for allergies before you smear it all over their face. Put a little black dot at the tip of the nose, to truly make them look like a Care Bear. For shoes you could either have them in colored slippers that match their outfit, or put a piece of felt over the shoe to cover it.
All Care Bears have a heart on their rear. Cut a small heart out of red felt and glue it to their backside, which will make them an authentic Care Bear. They will love the costume so much, they will never want to get out of it!
