A puggle is a crossbreed dog mixing one parent that's a beagle and the other a pug. The puggle is another breed considered a designer breed. The puggle was first registered by Wallace Haven in the American Canine Hybrid Club which is considered a non-credited group for designer crossbreeds.

About Puggles

Puggles roughly weight between 15 and 30 lbs and stand about 10 to 15 inches in height at the shoulders. The puggle is roughly the size of its parents. The coat of a puggle is typically shades of black, fawn, white or a mixture. The fur on a puggle is straight, short and smooth. The puggle tail curls upward and can either stick straight up or lay across their backs.

A puggle has a very sweet nature temperament and are very playful. Puggles will bond quickly and share their affection, energy and intelligence. A puggle likes to be in close contact with its owner's and can easily be located as they like to follow you around the house.

Puggles will bark like most dog breeds due to their social natures most puggles will bark when someone comes to your house. This is normally not an aggressive bark but their way of saying "hello" so that they may receive attention. You may notice a puggle will howl at times this is due to an inherited trait from the beagle parent.

Caring For Your Puggle

A puggles coat is very easy to take care of and requires very little grooming. Excess fur can be removed by brushing your puggle weekly. To avoid dry itchy skin a puggle should be bathed only once per month. Due to puggles energetic personality it's wise to walk your puggle every day or provide a fenced in yard where they may run.

Training Your Puggle

Due to the intelligence level of puggles training will be fairly easy. It is recommended that a puggle to use a repetition and reward type training when house breaking or teaching advanced skills.

It's very important to establish a routine for your Puggle. When housebreaking your puggle walk them around on a leash or harness allowing them proper time to find a place to do their business. If you are going to be gone for long periods of time you may wish to start crate training your puggle. Place bedding and a puppy training pad inside the crate along with food and water. Your crate should be large enough to house an adult sized puggle.

Keep in mind the puggle is not a hypoallergenic dog as it sheds quite a bit. You can eliminate some of the shedding by brushing your puggle once per week to remove any loose or excessive fur.
