We previously discussed the jobs associated with on-air personalities when it comes to the radio world. But in this article we will dive a little deeper and really look at all the radio industry has to offer those interested in this career. D.j.'s are not the only options to acquire the finer careers in this field. In fact, there are many moving parts that make up the radio programs as a whole. Think of all the wonderful ways you could contribute to this ever changing and popular career in radio.

Your Radio Career: Behind the Scenes

So, you are aware of the producer, director, writer, hosts, announcers and commentators but what about the behind the scenes personnel? That's right; it takes countless others to make this world go round. Let's start with management. Do you have a back ground in administration? If you have the education of a manager or position of administration than you may have exactly what some radio stations are looking for to open up a career in radio.

There are many different types of careers open for those willing to step up as leaders. Including; office managers, general managers, administrative personnel (secretaries and so forth), billing manager, billing specialists etc. Not to mention those in the marketing and promotional departments such as; marketing director, marketing assistant, PR (public relations) departments, and community relations.

Your Radio Career: How Can You Get Started?

As with every dream job you must start somewhere. It just so happens that I have the organizations that can help your career get going. These trade associations, organizations and unions can help anyone get started either with defining what education needs to take place or what kind of job is right for the person interested. All of your questions can be answered as the first step toward a career in radio is realized.

Your Radio Career: The Ring Leaders

The ring leaders are those involved in the sales and support. Those willing to go to work everyday to further the good of the radio station. It takes a special kind of person in the radio business to work so diligently to keep up the pulse of radio. All of the success and fame rests upon the shoulders of these few individuals... without them the personalities behind the microphone would have no job at all.

These careers would be; advertising, regional, and national managers and well as the Ad. Account Rep., copywriter and assistants thereof. Not to mention Traffic managers, engineering departments and the program coordinators of all sorts.

Hopefully, this article has shown you the value of one person in the media outlet such as radio. Each and every person involved has a huge task in front of them that makes or breaks the success of a radio station. If you desire a career in radio there are many to choose from so be aware of your potential and what you can give for the sake of your career.
