How to Cash in with Ebooks

Peter R
Imagine a product you can sell over and over without ever having to replace it. Many, including myself, are doing this on EBay and with ecommerce websites by selling electronic books, or e-books. On EBay you can sell niche market e-books for $3 - $10 a piece if you burn them onto CD's or you can sell them on a website or digital store where you they can sell on auto-pilot with the store automatically e-mailing the products to buyers. If you're a prolific writer, it is not hard to create an e-book with a collection of your existing articles by using Adobe Acrobat or e-book generating software. Typically, if you have something that extends beyond thirty pages, it can qualify as an e-book. If you you're not much of a writer, or don't have the time, it is not hard to do some research online and find master resell rights e-books written by others that you can turn around and re-sell.

E-books are particularly attractive to readers since they can inexpensively download informative information that they can use to improve their lives or enjoy their favorite literary classics cheaply and have them available on their computer, or in print form, or downloaded directly to a Kindle electronic device where they can download books directly from Amazon.com. Amazon.com allows you to convert your e-books into Kindle format on their site where buyers can endlessly instantly download your e-books and you just sit back and collect the cash. Most of my e-books are up on Amazon's Kindle store right now and I have sold about 30 in a few months.

If you want to sell e-books on your website, it's just a matter of advertising your product like any other. Include an image and brief description and excerpt and add paypal.com button. Then, when the e-mailed payments come in, simply reply with an attachment of your e-book in PDF format. If you want, you can grant resell rights to the buyer since there is a huge market for resellers as well as readers. I prefer to sell my e-books for $1 if I'm going to deliver them electronically. However, some sites sell e-books for up to $5 and if they include resell rights and an html reseller page they can sell for $30 or more.

If you want to set up a digital store that does all the work for you, you can do this relatively inexpensively. I set up mine through SeymourProducts.com for $20 and got about 70 niche e-books that sell automatically. I've had a lot of success selling e-books about paranormal topics such as Wicca, ghosts and hauntings, and the psychic phenomenon. My other categories include self help and e-books about Internet marketing and home based businesses. It's also fairly easy to find resell rights to classic fiction novels which are fairly popular as well.

After you have your digital store is set up, the bulk of the work comes with the marketing of the product. Submitting a portion of the e-book as an article is a good way to provide a teaser for an e-book if you have a link at the bottom to a site where the reader can purchase the rest of it. There is a wealth of article directories on the net where it is free to submit articles on any topic. ArticleCity.com, GoArticles.com, and ArticleBase.com are some of the better ones. I also like to offer a free e-book in some of the social networking forums as a way to attract people to my website.

If you really want to hit a homerun and get wealthy with e-books, you can offer your e-books to affiliate marketers. If you your product has a clever hook and you market it right, you could have a swarm of affiliate gurus working like mad selling your e-book for you in exchange for a 10% - 30% commission on the sales price. Some overnight millionaires have been created this way.

Just remember, that for starters your e-book has to have a clever title and a professional presentation. There are companies that professionally design e-book covers as well as inexpensive and sometimes free software that will help you design an e-book cover. This can be found with a simple Google search. Also, having originally written content is imperative for long term success. The Internet is so full of rehashed information so it's best to have information products where the author has written from first hand experience or did their own research rather than something written based on researching content already available online. With so much information available for free online, you will need to work a little harder to get people to pay for it.
