How to Cast Your Vote in the State of South Carolina by Absentee Ballot
Election day will be here before you know it. Now is the time to start making decisions about who will be getting your vote. The reasons to vote are all around you. There are many big important issues. We should all be engaged in the political process no matter what our age or position in life. It is our right to make our voices heard. Vote on election day November 2nd.
People over the Age of 65
People over the age of 65 can request an absentee ballot. This allows many seniors who might be without transportation to cast their vote from home.
Persons with Disabilities
Sometimes it's difficult for a person with a disability to get to the local polling place to cast their vote. In the State of South Carolina, they can request an absentee ballot.
Military Personnel or Merchant Marines
Members of the Armed Forces can request an absentee ballot. This also includes spouses and dependents who live with the military member. Members of the military many times are unable to get to their district where they can vote on election day. Within the state of South Carolina they can request an absentee ballot in order to cast their vote.
Working in a Job from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
If you are working in a job that requires you to be at work from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm you can still vote by requesting an absentee ballot. Many healthcare workers that work in hospitals would be one example of someone who is on the job during those hours.
Planning to be on Vacation or Travelling
If you have plans to be travelling while on vacation or business, you can request an absentee ballot. Don't let travelling away home from keep you from voting.
Other Reasons Allowed
You can request an absentee ballot if you will be serving on a jury, there is a funeral or death in the family, a certified poll worker, person confined to jail, anyone admitted to a hospital in an emergency situation, and persons taking care of a disabled or sick person.
In the State of South Carolina there are a couple of ways that you can request an absentee ballot. You can go online to www.SCVotes.org and send an email request for an absentee ballot, or call your local voter registration office to request a ballot be sent to you in the mail. This website has a list of counties to find specific phone numbers and contacts. Once you receive the ballot in the mail you must return your vote NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 2ND BY 7:00 PM to your county voter registration office.
It is more and more important that people realize that their vote counts. Don't let your vote go to waste. If you want to see real change in this country, find a way to vote. There is no excuse.
