How to Make Cat Repellent for Furniture

Alicia Bodine
You will need the following items:
Orange oil
Cayenne pepper
Eucalyptus oil
Water
Squirt bottle
Measuring spoon

Follow these instructions to make your homemade cat repellent:

Step 1:
Pour one quart of water in to an empty spray bottle.

Step 2:
Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper to the spray bottle.

Step 3:
Count out twenty drops of orange oil and drip them in to the spray bottle.

Step 4:
Count out twenty drops of eucalyptus oil and drip them in to the spray bottle.

Step 5:
Put the lid on the spray bottle and shake it up.

Step 6:
Spray on the furniture you wish to keep your cats away from. You may need to do this once per week if it begins to wear off.

Tips:
Use lemon oil instead of orange oil.

Warnings:
Test an area of the furniture first to make sure the cayenne pepper won't alter the color of the furniture.

  • Repel cats from scratching up your furniture.
  • Use any type of citrus oil.
  • Keep repellant in a cool dark place until needed.

Try using cayenne pepper oil instead

This totally didn't work. Cayenne does not dissolve. The mixture clogged the spray bottle immediately. I strained it through cheese cloth, but it still clogged the sprayer. This is after I spent $15 on eucalyptus and orange oils. Bummer!
