How to Get Cat Spray Out of Everything

Kelly Fleming
Male cat spray is different than urine. There are unique enzymes in there that make it almost impossible to get the smell out. There are certain things cat owners can do to take care of this problem. This is a horrible smell that no one wants to live every day. The cat will spray when a female is going into heat; he is basically marking his territory. You might notice more of this if there are other animals around.

Get your Cat Fixed

Spraying can last awhile. You can keep cleaning and cleaning, but as long as the animal is not fixed he will keep spraying. It is recommended to neuter him around six months old. This will take care of the problem before it happens. If the cat has already started to spray, then it is a good idea to still get him fixed so he does not continue to spray.

How to Get Spray out of Clothes

When my cat was spraying he would get everything in sight. This would include the bathroom rug and any clothing left on the floor. I would wash multiple times using different detergent and nothing work. Then, I bought spray-n-wash. I would soak the clothing in this and it worked!

How to Get Cat Spray out of Carpet

We would try different cleaners, but they never finished the job. I pulled back the carpet and padding where the spray was and threw away the padding, then primed the wood floor. After this dried I would pull the carpet back and clean it about six or seven times to make sure it was all out. It is important to buy a special cleaner for this that deals with cat spray.

You will need to buy new carpet pad for that section, but it is worth it and it worked.

Get Cat Spray out of Furniture

This one is the hardest. Use a steam cleaner and buy the right kind of cleaner that will get rid of spray. I will usually clean the furniture about four to six times, and then I use the spray-n-wash. Read the directions to make sure it will not damage the furniture. I spray it after steaming and just let it soak in, and leave it. This is the only effective way I have found to remove the odor.

These will take time to do, but it is well worth. Animal spray is one of the toughest to remove out of clothing, furniture, and carpet.
