One thing you can do at home to celebrate is fix your favorite meal. Well, the closest to your favorite that you and your partner agree on. You can either cook it together, or one of you can cook and the other can do clean up. Since is is a celebration of the day the two of you came together, neither of you should be expected to do anymore of the work than the other, unless one just wants to. Cooking together and then cleaning up together afterward can really be something fun, too.
You can choose for yourself whether you want your anniversary to be just a twosome, or whether you want to involve the whole family. You can wait until you've put your small children in bed if you want a candle lit dinner. If you want to include elementary age children in the celebration, you can ask them to serve Mommy and Daddy. If you and your partner dress up like you are really going to a fancy restaurant, your children will probably really enjoy pretending to be a high class wait-staff. Your children also might like to help you and your spouse pick out your fancy clothes.
Another fun idea you can do at home is watch movies. If you have your wedding video, anniversaries are a good time to re-watch it. Another fun movie idea is to to re-watch the first movie that you watched as couple and the first one that you watched as married couple. You could also watch movies about weddings or romantic movies. There are so many choices of movies that you could possibly watch. Get creative and pick movies that are good choices for the two of you.
If you like to dance, you can clear a place in your living room and dance. You can pick whatever kind of music you want to. If you have a special song, you can dance to it. Songs played at your wedding might also be a good choice. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, just go ahead and dance and celebrate your day.
Another idea is to just spend some time alone together. It's easy to get so busy that you forget how important it is to just effectively communicate with your spouse. Spending some alone time together can really recharge a relationship. Your anniversary night would be a great night to do this.
These are just a few starting ideas. Just do what you and your partner enjoy doing together. Anniversary celebrations definitely don't have to be expensive to be special.
