Here is a list of a few ideas on how to celebrate Bike to Work Day:
1. First and foremost, get on your bike and bike to work on that day! There is no better way to celebrate Bike to Work Day than by actually doing it! Rather than watching passively, join thousands of bikers across the nation in showing that Bike to Work Day actually means something. Encourage your friends to join you too!
2. Get online and look up the list of the National Bike to Work Week events taking place in your area - I'm sure you're going to be able to find something interesting. Many of these events include free coffee and snacks for bikers in the mornings, and celebrations in the afternoon (you can check for your local events here). In some areas, you can even get help to fix your bike and get some free stuff. Not to mention that you can get to meet some interesting people - don't miss out on all of this!
3. You can also host your own party to celebrate the Bike to Work Day and the fact that you took part in it. Order a bike shaped cake and invite all your friends and family members who took part in the Bike to Work Day. Or, use the party as an opportunity to encourage them to try it next year.
4. You could also get a shirt, badge, hat or messenger bag with the Bike to Work Week logo to commemorate the fact that you did it. If you wear it all year round, you might be able to encourage some other people, who haven't heard about the Bike to Work Day, to try it next year.
5. If you biked to work through the whole Bike to Work Week, calculate how much money you have saved on gas or bus fares. Then use that money to treat yourself to something fun. You deserve it!
6. On the way home from work, stop for a coffee or ice cream and reward yourself for doing so well on the Bike to Work Day. Or you could surprise your spouse and take them out for dinner to celebrate the day instead.
7. Bring some candy to work and share it with other people who decided to bike to work on May 15th. You could also go out with them later and have fun celebrating the Bike to Work Day.
8. If you feel up for something a little crazier, how about wearing your biking attire at work all day?
No matter what you will choose to do to celebrate, remember the fact that you get on your bike on Bike to Work Day is a reward in itself - you will get to work refreshed, invigorated and ready to tackle the day! And if you really enjoyed it, how about making a promise to yourself that you'll bike to work more often?
