How to Celebrate Your Boyfriend's Birthday

Esther November
Men don't seem to be as into their birthdays as we do. As a girlfriend, it's your job to honor whatever your boyfriend wants to do (or not do) and to celebrate his birthday accordingly. Here are some tips for making it a good one.

Celebrating your Boyfriend's Birthday: Presents

If you ask your boyfriend what he wants for his birthday, and he gives you the name of a video game or a power tool, your first thought might be to get him something that you're into instead. Unfortunately, men don't really care about love coupon books or scented candles or cable knit sweaters. When he says he wants Grand Theft Auto, he's being pretty direct and stating a gift idea that he's really going to use. Do him a favor and get him something he really wants. After all, you expect him to celebrate your birthday your way, right?

If your boyfriend asks for something specific and technical you're unfamiliar with, ask him to write down what it is and where to get one. He'll be honored that you put the effort into celebrating his birthday his way.

Celebrating your Boyfriend's Birthday: Activities

Your boyfriend probably doesn't associate his birthday with romance the way you might. If he wants a romantic date for his birthday, you've got yourself a wonderful evening ahead of you. But don't count on it. Many guys are content to stay home and order pizza like it's any other day.

If your boyfriend wants to celebrate with a party, live it up. Hold it at a bar and invite all his dude friends, or have it at home and keep it low-key. Theme parties are fun, but your boyfriend probably doesn't care whether or not he and all his friends dress up like cowboys or sport fake mustaches while they drink and play video games.

Celebrating your Boyfriend's Birthday: No Worries

Much like you probably do on your birthday, your boyfriend wants a break from all the everyday stresses and worries that pile up throughout the year. Today is not the day to bring up relationship issues or start quarrels about where he left his socks. In fact, you can help your boyfriend celebrate his birthday by giving him a break. No one should have to mow the lawn or even climb a ladder to change a light bulb on his birthday. Cap off the day with what he really wants by helping him relax in bed.
