How to Get a Celebrity's Autograph

Lisa Mason
Have you ever wanted to get a celebrity's autograph, but didn't have any idea how to go about it? There are several ways to get an autograph. One way to do this is by seeing the celebrity out in public. Another way is by being present during an official autograph signing and you can also write to the celebrity and ask for an autograph.

The easiest way to get a celebrity autograph is by going to the official signings. However, this is not always possible for everyone. Therefore, you may need to go about it a different way. If you live in an area where it is possible to see a celebrity out in person, you may be able to get them to sign an autography for you at this time. Here are some tips that can be helpful.

Make sure that you have a pen and a piece of paper or a photo or whatever you would like to have their autography on with you at all times. Wait until the time is appropriate and approach the celebrity calmly and quietly and ask if you could please have his or her autography. Never interrupt a meal or family outing.

Always be polite and gentle when approaching a celebrity. Even though you know who they are, you have to remember that they don't know you or anything about you. It's best to keep your encounters as simple and short as possible. This is just being courteous and respectable. Remember that it is possible that the celebrity will say no if they are trying to have a nice quite evening alone, so don't be offended if this happens.

The next best way to get a celebrity autograph is by using online resources. To do this you start by finding a reliable website that provides accurate information about celebrities such as their addresses. There are also a variety of books and other resources available for finding addresses as well.

It is recommended that you take your time and handwrite your letter when asking for a celebrity autograph. This gives your letter a personal touch. However, if you do not have legible handwriting, then you should probably type the letter. You should make the letter short and explain that you are a big fan and that it would mean a lot to you to receive one of their authentic autographed pictures. Let them know that it would really be appreciated if they could make the autograph out to you personally. Check your spelling and make sure you are always courteous when asking for an autograph.

It is also a good idea to include a self-addressed stamped Manilla envelope for them to mail you back the autographed picture. This will make it easier for them and give you a higher chance of a response. It is best if you do not say anything about wanting the autograph for collector purposes, they prefer to send them to regular fans that want the autograph for personal reasons.

Whether you just want your favorite celebrities autograph or you want to start an autograph collection, you can use these methods to achieve your goal. Make sure that you are always respectable and that you never come across as an obsessed fan (unless you enjoy restraining orders).

Good pointers. Sports fans, arrive at games or practice early for your sports stars autographs. Also, like IP said, wait patiently, your autograph isn't their first priority, even though it is to you. Neat article. Unique and well written.

Very smart idea with the SASE for the letter option. My only question is, do you really think the celebrities, especially the real real popular ones actually read their mail? What do you think? I've always wondered if it was worth sending a letter or autograph request. Also, do you think they sign their own signature or pay people to do this? Any idea?

I've been using these methods since my youngest daughter was a toddler. It somewhat began with her watching Law & Order. She adored Steven Hill. He played the District Attorney Adam Shiff. We wrote him a letter explaining how my daughter adored the show and she loved his character. He not only returned a personalized autograph, he also sent an extremely sweet letter for us. It is in a photo album with the non-acidic paper. We collected autographs through the years and the book is filling up with each passing year with her favorites as well as mine. The greatest gift we had for her Nana (grandmother) was a personalized autographed photograph of Jimmy Buffet; my mother loves him and his music. It was such a thrill when he wrote her a letter along with his autographed photo on behalf of her daughter and granddaughter.
