How to Make a Cell Phone Cozy

Victoria Willame

There are many ways to make a cell phone cozy. One way is to crochet it. Start with a size H crochet hook or whatever size you are comfortable using, smaller if you want a tighter weave, or larger if you want a looser weave. Measure the all the way around the phone. Add 2". Make your chain that long. Use a single crochet for the first row. In the second row, use a double crochet. For the length crochet until the length covers the phone from the top of the phone, down the front, and overlap the front piece to make your flap. Sew up the side seams until you reach the flap. Tie off. Add a button or snap for the closure.

Another way of making a phone cozy is with fleece. Cut a rectangle from the fleece the size of your phone. Measure all the way around from top to bottom and back again. Add an additional three inches, or your desired length for the flap. Sew up both side seams. Fold flap down over front of phone cozy and add a snap or button for a closure. You could also use Velcro if you would like. This is especially good if you have arthritis in your hands, and you do not want to mess with a button.

For ease of carrying, you may want to add a belt loop or two to the back of your phone cozy. You can make your own, or remove one or two from an old pair of jeans and attach to the back of your cozy. Another possibility is to sew or crochet a strap to go over your head. Wear it like a necklace and your phone is a right there for you. Make sure you attach the strap very carefully so you don't lose your phone.

You can dress up your cell phone cozy by adding beads, jewels, lace, a brooch pin, crocheted flowers, paint, or any of other embellishments. The choices are endless.

A phone cozy could be made of many different materials, in many different colors and many different sizes. Choose the materials you like best and use those. Make a statement with your phone cozy and go bold, or make it a medium solid color to blend in. However you choose to make your own phone cozy, personalize it and enjoy the process. Get creative and make some for friends and family or for gifts. How to Make a Cell Phone Cozy
