You can capture the spirit of the season with this easy DIY centerpiece platter sitting on your Holiday dinner table. The centerpiece is warm, fragrant and inviting and you probably have most of the items needed for this DIY creation on hand.
Materials Needed for Centerpiece Platter
A serving platter, tray, mirror or cake stand
2 pillar candles of different heights
Several votive candles and glass holders
Small piece of ribbon or yarn (red, green or gold color)
An assortment of cinnamon sticks, small pinecones, mini pumpkin, colorful leaves, berries, nuts and grapes.
Platter Arrangement
Cover the platter (tray, mirror, etc.) with a single layer of colorful fall leaves, allow the leaf ends to protrude past the platter edge. Place the tallest pillar candle in the center of the platter then surround it with the shorter candles. Use the assorted materials (grapes, nuts, berries) around the perimeter of the platter, filling in all gaps. Create some unique votive candle holders for your Holiday table display with the following DIY ideas.
Cinnamon Stick Candle Holder
If you have cinnamon sticks on hand, use them to create a unique and fragrant candle holder for the centerpiece platter. Wrap a rubber band around a glass votive candle holder (or small juice glass) then insert sticks of cinnamon between the rubber band and glass until they completely circle the votive cup. Tie a small length of Holiday colored ribbon or yarn around the outside of the cinnamon sticks to hide the rubber band. When the votive candle is lit, the warmth of the candle flame will warm up the cinnamon sticks to create a pleasing Holiday aroma.
Mini Pumpkin Candle Holder
If you are using a mini pumpkin as part of the centerpiece platter material, take it up a notch by creating a candle holder from the mini pumpkin. Carve out a hole in the center of the mini pumpkin just big enough to hold a votive candle.
Gold and Sparkle
If you want to add a little sparkle and glitz to the centerpiece platter, spray paint some of the pinecones, leaves and nuts with gold paint. While the paint is still tacky sprinkle some gold glitter on the items for a little extra sparkle.
Tie it all Together
Unify the table décor by using one of the items from the centerpiece platter as place card holders, napkin holders or chair décor. For example, purchase several mini pumpkins and cut a slot in the tops to hold place cards or tie a bundle of cinnamon sticks around the napkins.
