Harsh Gupta - Tech Writer
Microsoft Office was introduced in 1989 by Microsoft for Mac OS. The first version that came into the market was known as Microsoft office 3.0. Later, newer and newer versions were developed that had some new enhancements with improved performance and support for new file types.

Now-a-days, Microsoft Office 2007 is the latest version available in the market and a new version Microsoft office 2010 is still under development. In the initial stages of development, Office 2007 was known Office 12 and was merely an enhancement over the previous version meant to replace the menus and toolbars from the office window with a tabbed toolbar, known as Ribbon. The ribbon interface provided a completely new and rich graphical interface.

Microsoft Office 2007 Features

  • New style sheets and easy way to switch between them.
  • Automatic word count, displayed on the status bar.
  • New spell checker capable of finding wrong usage of a word,, where spelling was right but the word used was inappropriate.
  • Translation tool tip available for many languages like English, French, and Spanish.
  • Blog entries can be authored and uploaded directly on the blog.
  • New Building block facility that allows you to save the most frequently used word and lets you assign a shortcut key.
In Microsoft Word 2007, the default formatting is Font - Calibri and the line spacing - expanded, with a line added automatically after every paragraph.

Today, I will teach you how to create your own formatting style and make it default.

Step 1: Click the Start button to open the Start menu. From Start menu, select New Microsoft Office Document. From the New Office Document window, select Blank Document and press OK button to continue.

Step 2: By default, the Home tab is selected. From there you will find a Style Ribbon. In the right corner of the style ribbon, you will notice a small arrow pointing downwards.

Alternatively, you can also press Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S keys to open up the Styles window.

Step 3: From the Styles window, click on Manage Styles icon to open the Manage Styles window.

Step 4: Change the desired settings according to your preference like Normal Font size, Default Paragraph Font, Title style, etc. When done select the Set Defaults tab and make changes to line, spacing, paragraph spacing, and fonts. You can choose to make the changes only to the current document or to a new document based on this template. Finally, click OK button to save changes.

If you choose, New Documents based on this template option, all the new pages will have the default style chosen by you.
