How to Change Google Background Color & Image

Personalize Your Custom Google Homepage

Phillip White
Search engine giant Google has recently added a nifty little feature to its homepage previously seen on other search engines like Bing and Ask.

Users can finally say goodbye to Google's famous plain white homepage. You can now personalize the background to your liking!

All it takes is a few clicks of the mouse. First, just hit the "Change the background" link on the lower, left-hand side of Google's homepage.

From there, a window will pop up allowing to to choose what exactly you want to place on the background.

From my computer

The first option allows you to upload an image from your computer. Keep in mind that you can only upload images in JPG, GIF, or PNG files. The image will also be available to view and share in Google's Picasa Web Albums.

Once you've chosen an image, just hit and "Upload" button and you're done.

My Picasa Web photos

The next option is for users of Picasa. Just select an image from your album and hit the "Select" button at the bottom.

Public gallery

The third option is Google's public gallery. It's a collection of images from users for you to select from. There's plenty of choices to select from, and there's even a search bar for you to find exactly what kind of photo you want on your Google homepage.

Editor's picks

The final one is the editor's picks option. From here, Google has selected a bunch of images that you can pick, and they all look pretty good. From landscapes to architecture, it's a good selection to choose from.

If you want just a color background, simply scroll down the editor's picks to the bottom of the list, where's there's just plain colors like blue, red, yellow, and green.

It's nice to see Google giving its users the ability to personalize the homepage. Is it necessary? Not really, but's it's still a pretty cool feature that allows everyone to add their own little personal touch to their Google homepage.

If you don't like it, you can always feel free to revert back to the good ol' plain white background.
