How to Change a Nose Screw

Figuring out how to change your nose screw can be pretty challenging. Nose screws are the most difficult type of nose jewelry to put in and take out of your nose piercing. Nose screws are also the best type of nose ring to wear because they are the least likely to fall out, and they do not have the ball at the end that stretches the piercing hole like a nose bone. With these great instructions and some practice, you'll be able to change your nose screws in no time at all.

Step 1: Wash and dry your hands. You want to make sure your hands are clean so as to not cause an infection in your nose piercing. You want them dry so it's easier to grasp the tiny nose screw.

Step 2: Clean the new nose screw with some antibacterial soap and water.

Step 3: Remove the current nose jewelry. If you have a nose ring that is straight, such as a nose bone, pull it out straight. You may experience some pain as the ball on the end could stretch out the piercing hole. If you are removing a fishtail end, you'll want to pull straight, then down to get the bend in the post out through your nose piercing hole.

Place the jewelry in a safe place so you don't loose it. Watch out for that drain if you are doing this over the bathroom sink. If you are removing a nose screw, you'll want to pull down on the jewelry as much as you can, and then rotate and pull at the same time to get it to come out.

Step 4: Quickly take the end of the nose screw and place it into the piercing hole. Push in as far as you can. Placing the index finger of the opposite hand inside your nostril helps guide the end of the screw. The outside end of the nose screw will be flat against the side of your nose. You want to move quickly as nose holes can heal up extremely fast.

Step 5: This is where you'll need the practice. Every person's nose is shaped differently, so their piercing hole may also be a little different. Move the piercing around slightly to find the best spot to push it in the rest of the way. Keeping the end of the screw inside the piercing and the rest of the post laying flat on your nose, slowly move the piercing around to point upwards. As you do this, push the ring into your nose. Placing your finger inside your nostril helps a great deal to make sure the end the post stays inside your nose and also helps to guide you as you push the outside of the screw in.

Step 6: If you can not get the screw in, take it all the way out. Either with your hands or pliers, take the nose screw and open the "c" shape a little bit. Making it wider will make it fit into your nose easier.

Step 7: Repeat Steps 4 and 5.

Step 8: If you are still having trouble, try starting out with the nose screw pointing down and twist and push in the opposite direction. If that does not work, try starting out with the nose piercing pointing left or right, and then twist and push. Once you figure out the best starting point for your nose, every nose screw changed will be quick and easy.
