With that said changing your OS is not something to be taken lightly. Fortunately you can dual boot different platforms to determine which one works best for you.

Trial and error may be the best and most appropriate method for finding an Operating System, which properly suits you and your personality. The best method of finding a great OS that fits you perfectly will likely be to try out many different Linux and Windows versions. You can find many Linux distributions, as well as installation instructions at Distro Watch.

How To Change Your OS, Downloading.

Before you can install any OS you need the appropriate media, typically this means a CD-ROM with the software installer on it. Distro Watch is a great place to get different distributions of Linux, but what about Windows? Windows is a publisher copy writed product and as such you will have to purchase the installer, the disc, and the product key, in order to use it.

Now that you have downloaded a distribution of Linux, the next thing to do is burn it to a CD. If you have opted to install a variation of Windows you may skip this step. Burning a CD is pretty easy when you download a Linux Distro it will come in the form of an ISO file simply open your favorite CD burning software and click 'file' >>' open' 'the ISO file'.

To install your new Operating System, simply insert your CD into the computers CD-ROM drive, and reboot the computer. Shortly you should see a message that indicates you should press a key to continue the installation. Press any key and the installer will begin. There are some miscellaneous options you will be required to enter such as how much space you want partitioned to the OS if you would like to keep the old OS in tact and what programs to install but I'm confident you can answer these questions without assistance.
