How Charming

You're Our Everything on Memorial Day

Tommy Hayfield
How charming that you think that much of me...
Do I know you and where have we met?
I'm STRESSING trying to understand, to see
why I merit this attention. This debt

You think you owe to your country astounds!
Me?...I wish I could tell you what I think
Our problem, mine, is that we're all earthbound
while you hang out with God, at you he winks...

I'm feeling unworthy, I'm nitpicking
my comfy life though no bullets I dodge
I'm glad that through you we see we're winning

(in my mind) I see your fallen friends in the warm Spring
when flowers charge, the angry dirt's dislodged...
You remind us that you're our EVERYTHING!
