How to Have a Cheap, or Even Free, Romantic Date

Cee Belair
There is still room for romance when you're on a tight budget; you just have to get a little creative. Being in debt can cause a strain on a relationship, which is all the more reason to find a little quiet time with your spouse.

Here are some ideas for cheap, or even free, dates!

Take a hike- or a walk. A nice, romantic walk along the beach at sunset is a great, free getaway. Bring a picnic basket with you, fill with wine, cheese and crackers or any other snack. Or, hike up a mountain and gaze upon the views with a picnic lunch.

Lace up your skates, or roller blades, or even break out the skateboard! Have some fun rolling down the street with your other-half. It can be a fun time to take up something new, like skateboarding if you've never done it before. It's sure to bring some laughs! Just remember to wear your safety gear!

Set out for a drive, pack up some lunch or snacks and set out for a peaceful country drive. Spend some time talking together, and if you're lucky, you might be able to find a secluded place to park. I'm sure you remember the high school days and what comes next!

Browse a museum, call ahead of time, they will often offer discounts on admission, or you might even be able to find coupons to get in for free.

Go to the shopping mall, grab an ice cream and sit on the bench and just talk. People watching can sometimes be humorous!

An oldie but goodie, cook a romantic meal and enjoy it by candlelight. Spread a blanket on the floor and enjoy a romantic meal in the living room. Send the kids to a babysitter for the evening.

Just stay in bed! Spend a day in bed together and if you really want to take it to the next level, dance for each other! Make sure to call in sick to work, and send the kids to the babysitter. Or for a change of scenery, rent a motel room for the night.

Hit the local amusement park. Summer is coming so seasonal parks will be opening up soon. Spend the day riding your favorite rides. You can often find discount coupons, or even free admission to your favorite park.

The most important thing for spending quality time with your loved one is to keep it light and laugh a lot. It doesn't have to be a fancy getaway to have a good time! Enjoy your time together, and keep your relationship strong.

Great ideas -- it's so hard to find time (and money!) to spend with a spouse. Thanks!
