Time to start decorating for Halloween! Add a little unique twist to your holiday decor with a guide to created a witch or vampire head.
Supplies:
*Styrofoam manikin head
*Paint and paintbrushes
*Fake hair
*Glue gun
*Scissors
*Old Newspaper
Step 1:
Get your manikin head. These can be purchased at a craft store or a beauty supply store. If you're going to Hobby Lobby, be sure to check their store specials to see if they have their 40% off one item coupon the week that you are getting the manikin head. You'll also need to get your fake hair. You can purchase a fake wig almost anywhere. Deals has wigs usually around $5. You can also get long braiding hair at a beauty supply store for about $1-2 a bag. You will need approximately 3-4 bags for a witch and 1-2 for a vampire with short hair.
Step 2:
Lay out your newspaper and start painting your manikin head. The good news is that if you're doing a vampire, you'll just need to paint on the face since most manikin heads are already white. If you're doing a witch, do a green base coat and let dry. Then continue with the face.
Step 3:
If you've purchased a fake wig for your manikin head, you can skip this step. If you purchased loose braiding hair, it's time to start cutting. If you're doing a witch that you would like to have long hair, untie the hair and cut in half. Be careful. This can get messy since the hair is loose. If you are doing a vampire, cut the hair in half then in a half again and again until you've reached the desired length you want.
Step 4:
Time to start glueing! With a wig, you don't have to glue if you don't want to. If you want to, just put dots of glue throughout the wig and stick it on. Be sure not to put too much glue so it doesn't melt the styrofoam. Now, onto the braiding hair. Decide where you will want the part to be in the hair. It's easiest with this to start from the bottom and go up. Just put long strips of glue around the head and start applying. Hold the hair about an inch back so you don't burn yourself applying the hair. Remember to keep in mind where the part you have in mind is going to be as your glueing the hair.
Step 5:
You can now cut the hair more if you like after the glue has dried, or tease it up for a messy effect. Another idea is braiding it or throwing little pieces of grass in the hair to make it look even messier.
Step 6:
You're finished! Place your witch or vampire anywhere around the house. For an added effect, put the head on top of a plate on the table on Halloween night. Congratulations! You have now made your very first Halloween manikin head!
