How Cheating on Your Diet Can Help with Your Weight Loss Success

When you walk by your favorite cinnamon roll place or sweet shop have you ever felt like having a temper tantrum like two year-old? "I want it, I want it, I want it?" Then your adult voice starts lecturing you with all the reasons you should not have that oh so good cinnamon bun because of all the oh so bad things that could happen. You will ruin your diet and your figure; not to mention the sugar rush and crash later. So do you indulge or give a loving glance at the gooey treat and move on?

Indulging in a guilty pleasure once in a while does not have to be a bad thing. It can actually have some great advantages. Even having a small part of the treat is enough to make you feel a bit giddy for breaking the rules of your diet. Sometimes the child in all of us likes to stick our tongue out at the rules. Having treats such as chocolate can even help improve your mood, along with a host of other health benefits. Being good all the time can get very old and boring. We all need to have a little fun, but the key is moderation.

Having a designated "cheat day" is also a great idea! Knowing that if you follow your diet and exercise routine for "x" amount of time, you will have a day that you can indulge in some of the things you tend to avoid. Just remember this is not a license to go crazy and have thousands of calories. No one likes to be told no you can't have the yummy foods that tempt you with their goodness.

Denying yourself simple pleasures can lead to sneaking the very things you are avoiding. It may also lead to binge eating. You think you are going to sneak in just a couple of cookies and then suddenly you look down and the whole package is gone. This sort of eating leads to guilt and negative self-image. These eating habits find you in the kitchen at 2:00 am looking thru the kitchen cupboards for anything that is available to snack on.

So it is ok to break your diet with small treats and rewards. The idea is to keep things in a positive light. The more positive you are you will keep working harder to maintain your healthy lifestyle. Those small treats can keep your body healthy and your inner child happy.
