Below is a list you could consider when it comes to making your children pick up their own toys after play:
1. Designate an appropriate place for their toys. Even if they obey your 'order', it would still be useless if you have not assigned a place where to keep their toys. By the time your children knows where, they would easily place their toys on that spot and would not have a hard time looking for their toys once they decide to play again.
2. Demonstrate to them how to do it. Most children have this tendency to imitate the actions of the people around them, take advantage of this opportunity to show them how to do it.
3. Take notice of their efforts and praise or reward them every time they do it. Just like adults, kids also love to hear praises or receive rewards. It would let them know that they are doing something good and should encourage them to always do the task. In no time, you would not have to remind them of what to do as picking up their toys will eventually become into a habit.
4. Tell them the consequences of cluttered toys. Toys are your children's prized possessions. If they know that their toys would possibly be destroyed if left cluttered everywhere, they would certainly follow your rule. You can be sure that they do not want to lose their toys.
5. Make cleaning up a fun activity for them. You can start picking up the toys and sing nursery rhymes. They would surely find what you are doing enjoyable and thus follow suit.
The list suggests very simple actions but they could really help you in educating your children when it comes to picking up their toys. Teaching your children to be obedient in an early age will definitely make you feel fulfilled as a parent. It would truly pay off in the long run.
