How to Make Your Children Extraordinary

Dougie Lloyd
You may be thinking how many achievements your little one needs to have completed before you start seeing your child as successful.

When I say 'soccer moms', it conjures up images of hyper-competitive moms who race around in minivans and yell at coaches when their kids are not playing enough. For good or bad, we exist in a world that is very competitive. When I say extraordinary children, I do not mean a quarterback to achieve Notre Dame or another Beethoven. If your children are passionate towards sports or music or anything for that matter, give them all the leeway to enjoy their passion and become good at it. An extraordinary child fulfills her or his own potential, whatever it is.

Competition is good because it motivates a young human to do his or her best. Competition is not with somebody else but with yourself and that is what you can teach to your children.

Many of the greatest sports personalities are names that nobody has heard of. This is because they have not made it to the pros. Many wonderful musicians play for an audience composed of one or two people. Only they know whether their lives have been successful. Extraordinary children are those kids who continue to live well-balanced, successful and healthy lives.

If you would like your children to become extraordinary, do not do what everyone is doing already. Everything in parenting takes some time. It is not a quick and easy affair. You need to build the foundation brick by brick, slowly.

Extraordinary people tend to differentiate themselves from the masses because they are unique individuals who have found their own details.

Many children spend too much time before the TV. While it seems that many of us cannot do without a TV in their homes, limit what the children watch on TV. Also limit the amount of their time spent before a TV.

If you have young kids, play board games or your own games with them. When it comes to older kids, just sit with them and talk. Include their friends also, if need be. Start doing this in minute doses so you can wean them off from the influence of the TV. Place limits on TV-watching.

Put the home computer in a public space in your home so you can see at any time what your children are looking at. Place Internet limitations and scrutinize Internet activity of your children closely.

I know of two young girls who, when in school, were animal lovers. They raised horses and entered them into County Fairs. They were not very popular, but I think they were cool. Instead of pursuing artificial glory like popularity, they did what meant more to them. One of them has now become a veterinary surgeon. She is what I would call an extraordinary kid. Being a veterinarian does not make her extraordinary. She is extraordinary due to the fact that her life as a child allowed her to find out that becoming a veterinarian would match her interests perfectly.
