How to Choose the Best Lipstick to Flatter Asian Skin

Wynn Murray
Lipstick is tricky business for any woman, especially in an age of casual chic where it's easy to look overdone. For an Asian woman, there are certain lipstick shades you can pick to highlight your natural beauty.

Darker shades will tend to look good against the natural golden tone in Asian skin. This means deep reds, purples, even browns. A raisin or plum colored lipstick will look sophisticated and sleek.

For the day, you can choose more neutral tones, such as caramel or coffee colored lipstick. Or you can brush on a bit of semi-transparent lipgloss that just adds a stain of red or purple to your lips. These looks will be professional, yet flattering.

Very light colored lipsticks tend not to flatter Asian skin. If it's lighter than your skin tone, it will tend to make you look washed out instead of alluring. That being said, a little bit of shimmery lip gloss can brighten up your look, especially if you take the tone from your outfit.

If you're an Asian woman with a golden complexion, shimmery golden colors will bring out your natural beauty in a dramatic way, since gold is not a very common color for makeup. In addition to shimmery gold powder for your eyes, you can brush the slightest bit of gold powder onto your lips to match.

For a sexy, dramatic look, you can go for a bold bluish-red. This looks gorgeous against porcelain Asian skin tones and is the perfect finishing touch for an evening look. You can match red lipstick with neutral black eyeliner and mascara for a stunning look for a night on the town.

If you're focusing on your eye makeup and go with dramatic eyes, tone down your lip color to something more subdued. If you decide to go bold with the lipstick, then go with simpler, softer eye makeup to balance it out.

Those are a couple tips for Asian women looking for the right lipstick to complement their skin tone. Of course, the most important part of it all is confidence. Put on whatever lipstick you like, and go wear it like you mean it!
