How to Choose a Bluetooth Keyboard for the iPhone

One update to the iPhone's abilities that didn't get a whole lot of press is the new Bluetooth support for keyboards. You can now use your iPhone as a tiny little computer with a tiny little screen, which can be really useful if you're on the road and you want to type an email or a work document without painstakingly choosing your letters from the iPhone's little touch keyborad.

However, Bluetooth keyboards are not all the same, and if you're trying to use one with the iPhone, you've got a few things to think about before you make your purchase. Here are a few simple tips for choosing a Bluetooth keyboard that will work with the iPhone.

Shape and Mobility. A good Bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone should be easy to travel with, unless you're already traveling very lightly. There are some Bluetooth keyboards that fold up, and these can be a great choice. There are also mini Bluetooth keyboards. The really, really small ones that are available will work with your iPhone, but they can be just as difficult to type on as the iPhone's screen. This is particularly true if you've got big fingers like I do.

Pay attention to the size and positioning of the shift and control keys on your iPhone keyboard. Try to choose a model that's similar to your computer keyboard. If you can find a good electronics store, try a few out before you buy online to avoid any buyer's remorse.

Price. Keeping price down on a Bluetooth keyboard for your iPhone is fairly easy. You'll want to look online, as Best Buy and similar retailers will charge way too much for a Bluetooth keyboard. Keep an eye on secondhand keyboards and auctions. Remember to fully read the product description before buying a Bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone online; otherwise, you could miss a crucial detail, and the great deal that you found will turn out to be a waste of money.

Will The Bluetooth Keyboard Work With The iPhone? This is one thing that you don't really have to worry about. If you've found a Bluetooth keyboard, you've found one that will work with the iPhone. You don't need any special adapters or anything like that, either. Any Bluetooth keyboard will be recognized once you go into the iPhone's settings menu and click on Bluetooth, so don't listen to advertisements that claim that you need a certain approved Bluetooth keyboard for your iPhone. They're not telling the truth.
