How to Choose a Carpet Store

How Do You Choose Where to Buy Your New Carpet?

Beth Inman
Nothing changes the aesthetics of a room more than new flooring. Replacing or adding new carpet in your space can be a very expensive project. Because the floor space is the largest space in most rooms, it can also have the greatest impact in a redecorating project. A carpet purchase can be a major expense and one you will not want to do again any time soon. It is for this reason you want to make a good choice. That choice begins with where you purchase your new carpet. How do you decide where you will make this important purchase?

There are many types of stores that carry carpeting. The choice you make should be based on preferences like prices and services or products available. Before you begin the shopping process, decide on a few things; what will your budget be? What services do you desire? What is the availability of product, and what color choices are available?

Big box home and garden stores such as Home Depot and Lowe's offer good prices because they are very large chains. Because of their ability to purchase in bulk, they can offer lower pricing. However, the service is not very personable and the sales persons at Home depot and Lowe's are usually not carpet installation experts. If your intention is to get the best price, a good selection and you plan to install the carpeting yourself, stores such as Home Depot and Lowe's will serve you well.

Carpet warehouse stores usually have the largest selection of carpeting as well as the best prices. When I think of carpet warehouses the first place that comes to mind is Dalton Carpet Outlet. The people at Dalton Carpet Outlet have been offering carpeting at rock bottom prices for over 18 years. The fact that these carpet warehouses specialize in carpeting promise a higher level of service in regards to forming a decision based on need, budget and financing. Carpet warehouses will usually ship and will provide installers if you are within the service area. The downside is that the level of personal service is very low simply because it is such a large company. You are one of thousands.

Your local carpet store s the best choice if you are looking for professional advice and personal service. Chances are they will remember you as well as your purchase long after your carpet is installed. Most local carpet stores carry many styles and type of carpeting and can order it in your desired color. They will be available for consultation before the sale and service after the installation is complete. They can also arrange for professional installation. Local carpet stores are usually the most expensive, but if service is important, the local carpeting stores deliver the best service.

Whatever your decision, new carpeting is something you will live with for a long time. Take your time and be certain of your decision. Decide which are the most important factors and use this information when making a decision to purchase.
