How to Choose a Domain Name for an Ecommerce Business

Jim Posey
Good domain names are completely invaluable for a business. If you have a domain name that is easy to remember you will find it far easier to get return customers to come back to your website. The fact is that when people sit down at their computer screen they are going on root memorization to get to the website that they want, unless the website is bookmarked. A little thought is all you need in order to pick a domain name that people will remember and keep them coming straight to your website whenever they need the product that you sell.

The key to choosing a domain name for your ecommerce business is to have something that is easy for people to remember. This is why you see so many big money sites with goofy domain names. Just look at Google.com! When your customer runs into your website by just browsing the web they should have some type of association with the product that you offer at your ecommerce site and the domain name. Don't try to be too hip with your name in order to make it memorable. Connect it with your product in a way that your market will be familiar with.

Make your domain name for your ecommerce business easy to spell. Don't try to get fancy with the spelling of your domain name. Replacing S's with Z's will just make you look like a teenager's fan site. Making your name unique in spelling will only increase the amount of misspelling when people are trying to find your website. For a brick and mortar business this would be the equivalent of putting your store at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Sure people will be able to get to it but who will want to put in the effort.

That being said, keyword selection is of utmost important when choosing a domain name for your ecommerce business website. The amount of traffic that you can get from Google and other search engine will put your business on a whole new level so learn a little about SEO and incorporate high traffic keywords into your website. This will also help people who know what they want and don't know who to get it from.

Domain names won't make or break your business in every case, but who wants to fight an uphill battle? Make it easy to remember and your customers will stick around to buy your products.
