How to Choose Drawer Pulls

Catherine Woods
Drawer pulls are the jewelry for any kitchen or bath and can help set the tone for the entire room. Many people simply walk into the home improvement store and pick out whatever they happen to like, but there is much more to consider when choosing drawer pulls. Things like the style of the room and cabinets, the finishes in the home and your own personal taste all play important factors. Here is what you should look at in order to choose the perfect drawer pulls for your cabinetry.

Style of the Cabinets

The first and most important thing you should consider in your decision is the style of the cabinets your drawer pulls will be on. Are your cabinets modern, traditional, contemporary or rustic? The reason this is so important is that you would not want to put a modern styled drawer pull on rustic cabinets or vice versa. That would just look off. Could you imagine drawer pulls that look like deer antlers on a modern cabinet? So, make sure that the drawer pulls you look at match your cabinetry style.

Style of the Room

Secondly you are going to want to look at the style of the room and the furnishings in it. Is the room formal or have a more casual feel? You want your drawer pulls to echo the statement you are making in the rest of the room. So if the room is very ornate, make sure your pulls are as well. If it has a lot of clean lines, then so should your drawer pulls. Make sure it matches.

Finishes in the Home

Next you are going to need to look around your home at the metal (or wood if you plan on wood pulls) finishes in the home. If brushed nickel is used throughout the home, then your metal choice should probably be brushed nickel. If bronze is more predominant, your drawer pulls should likely also be bronze. By using the same finishes throughout the house, you will make the home feel unified.

Personal Taste

Finally, you of the options you have left that fit all the other criteria, choose your favorite. So long as the drawer pulls match the style of the room and cabinets and are in the right finish, they are contenders. So lay them out, side by side, and choose the drawer pull that you like best.

Once you have chosen your favorite drawer pull for your cabinets, all that you have left to do is purchase and install them. Now sit back and relax. You have picked the perfect drawer pull for your home and yourself.
