Picking a name for your baby can be difficult task. It is a name that he or she will be called by for the rest of their lives. It's your obligation to give the child a name is can be proud of, and that it's children can be proud of. Hopefully this guide will provide you with some helpful hints and tips at picking just the right name for your new baby. It's a decision that's fun for some parents, and very stressful to others. Our aim is to make it even more fun, or at least take some of the stress out of the process. So sit back, grab a writing utensil, and lets get started creating your new baby's identity.

The first step in picking a name should be finding the names you like. Have your partner sit down with you, and write down the names that each of you like. Write down names of people you like, perhaps some people you respect greatly. Find a book or website that lists the meanings of names, and write down names that have meanings you appreciate. When you have a good list, compare the names and cross out the ones that each of you doesn't like. This list will probably change every day, but it is a good way to keep your ideas flowing, and help pick a name both you and your partner will like best. When you both agree on a name, practice saying it. See how it sounds, and decide if you would enjoy saying it the many times you will.

There are a few other factors that should be considered in choosing your name. Think about how well the name will age over the years. Will it still sound good 30 years from now? Will it sound good when the child is an adult, or a senior citizen? Try saying the name with your last name to make sure they sound good together. Many try to avoid creating a name that starts with the same letter of their last name. Decide if the name is a traditional name, or possibly a bit unique. Understand the personality that underlies the names you are considering, and how it might sound with the different personalities your child might come to have. Religion is also a factor many consider in their name. Assess your religious beliefs and how you might incorporate that into the name. If you follow these steps, you are sure to find a name not only you and your partner will be happy with, but one the child will appreciate as well.
