Budget
Like any home improvement project, you need to select materials that fit within your budget, and granite flooring is not exception. Some colors of granite will cost more than others due to their rarity and popularity. So, make sure you know how much you can spend per square foot installed. Then, only look at granite color options that will fit within that budget. This will help you narrow down your color options with very little though.
Room Size
The next thing you need to do, is look at the size of the room your granite floor will be going in. Dark flooring works well in smaller space because it will draw your eye out and make the room feel more expansive. However, if you were to install that same dark granite in a large room, it can actually be overpowering because of how much darkness it will bring to the room. If you are in doubt, choose a medium toned granite because it will work in just about any size room.
Lighting
You also want to be mindful of the lighting in the room your granite flooring will be going in. If you want dark granite flooring in your small kitchen, be sure the room has enough lighting to withstand the added dark color. If not, choose a lighter granite color in the same color family or make plans to add additional lighting to the room to help balance it out.
Pattern
Are you wanting to do a pattern with your granite or are you wanting a standard tile look? This is another important thing to consider when you are choosing a color for your granite floor. Sticking to the same granite throughout your floor is an easy option that can look beautiful. However, if you are wanting to create a pattern, then you will actually have to choose several different colors that contrast each other without clashing. Try choosing granite that is in the same color family, or stick to neutral colors that are easy to coordinate.
So when it comes time to select a granite color for you floor, be sure to weed out other color options using these key things. First by price, then by room size and lighting, then pattern. Once you have done this, you should only have a few option remaining and will just have to choose your favorite remaining option. Then all you need to do is order your granite, have it installed and enjoy.
