The first thing you want to do when determining which gaming system to go with, is identify your favorite games. Some games are limited to a specific system, so when choosing which system is right for you, make sure your favorites games are on it, or are multiplatform, available on all three systems.
Once you have a list of games you enjoy playing, or don't really look that much into specific games, you can check into your budget. The Wii is the cheapest higher up system available currently priced at $199. The arcade version of the Xbox 360 system is in running with the Wii price tag of $199, but the elite 360 which is used more often comparison to the other three systems is priced at around $250. The most expensive of the three systems is the slim version of the PS3 which is currently priced at $299.
After taking specific games, and price into consideration, you need to determine what the system is going to be used for. If you are looking for a family oriented, uniting system, the Wii is the most common way to go, while if you are looking into a more entertainment system, the PS3 is more fit, with a built in blu-ray player, but if you are looking to experience a more fulfilling gaming experience, the 360 and PS3 are the way to go. While it is noted that the Wii is more for the occasional gamer, note that there are also multiplatform games such as resident evil, and the Wii only legend of zelda that are perfect for any hardcore gamer. Then when looking at the comparison between the 360 and the PS3, note that there are system specific games, such as the 360's halo and gears of war, and the PS3's drake's uncharted, and resistance, that can have a lasting influence on which system you choose.
Out of personal opinion, if you are looking for a gaming system for the whole family to enjoy, the Wii is the way to go, just because it has so many party type multiplayer games, oriented towards a younger or less hardcore gaming prone person.
If you are looking for a system to really game on, and experience all of what modern videographics have to offer, the PS3 and 360 are excellent choices, the only real difference between choosing the 360 or the PS3 is the system specific titles, the controllers for personal comfort, and the PS3's free online and blu-ray player compared to the 360's lacking a blu-ray player and a charge per month of live internet gaming. Also to note the PS3 has built in wireless connector, while on the current available models of 360 you have to purchase an adapter separately at the cost of $100.
So overall depending on your personal needs, wants, and biased the Wii, PS3 and 360 are all great gaming systems to choose from. I have personally owned all three, and I have got to side with the PS3 and Wii just because the PS3 is the hardcore gaming machine, and the Wii has so many interactive games available.
