How to Choose the Most Flattering (Pair Of) Pants for Your Figure

Pat Jacobs

You can find the perfect pair of pants even if you don't have a perfect body, that will always make you look fantastic. The key is to choose a pair that will give you a straight, long and lean outline (hiding any lower body flaws!).

Here's how:

1. If you have ANY BELOW-THE-WAIST FIGURE CHALLENGES, avoid pleats,

pockets and zippers. They'll just add bulk and fullness.

2. To effectively HIDE A BOTTOM-HEAVY FIGURE, go for close-fitting pants with

a larger, loose top. You want a jacket or tunic that'll go over and cover the

buttocks. You DON'T want loose-fitting pants or gathered elastic waistbands

(they'll also add bulk and fullness).

3. TO MAKE SHORT LEGS APPEAR LONGER-Wear dark colors, thin vertical

stripes or corduroy. All three create a leg-lengthening effect.

4. FOR THICK WAISTS-No Belts! They'll only draw attention to your mid-section.

No Patterns! They'll add pounds; stick with solid colors.

5. Everyone knows that wearing black makes you look thinner. By all means

continue wearing, but did you know that KHAKI, PEACH, BEIGE, HOT PINK,

NAVY BLUE, or ROYAL BLUE ALSO HAVE A SLIMMING EFFECT? You do

now.

6. IF YOU DRESS ENTIRELY IN BLACK, ADD A COLORFUL ACCESSORY, like a watch, necklace, or even a handbag (purse) to brighten your look. ALSO

CONSIDER WEARING A LIGHTER-COLORED TOP.

7. If you like soft, fluid lightweight fabrics like silk or polyester, go for it. They flow

and give you a more feminine look (I personally prefer cotton or a cotton blend;

it holds up better and can be worn year-round. And I don't like "shiny" clothes!

Now perhaps for a special formal event, I may put on silk or satin, but for

everyday wear-Nah!).

8. The classic length flatters everyone-It's just below the ankle with the hem

brushing the back of your shoe.

Tips and Warnings

Black pants (with the right accessories) also make a great evening look.

A black pantsuit, a softer neutral suit in gray, brown, khaki or navy and three pairs of neutral pants are essentials.
