What type of Plan? Consider what kind of plan will work best for your needs BEFORE you go into the store. Do you want a Pre-Paid plan or a Monthly Billing plan with a locked in contract, usually stipulating 24 months. If you decide this first it will help narrow down some of search as certain phones are only pre-paid. Keep in mind though that you will be locked into the contract for the monthly billing and can only buy out of it.
Budget. How much can you afford to spend on your phone? You need to consider your monthly budget on your phone to ensure you only view phones within this budget.
Flip-phone, Open-phone, or Slider-phone? If you've had a cell phone before you'll know which you prefer, but if you haven't then try holding and using all three options and see which you feel most comfortable using. You'll need to feel comfortable using your phone on a regular basis so this is an important function to consider.
Size. Does the size of the cell phone matter to you? If not, than your options are wide open. If it does consider how small or how big you want your phone to be. How will you carry your phone? Will it be in a purse, bag, or your pocket? Test the weight and size of the different phones to again see what you are most comfortable with.
Choose your top fivefeatures. The features are what make the phone so it's important to know what you are looking for. There are many different features to choose from so think about your lifestyle and what you will use on a regular basis to make it worthwhile. Are you looking for a good digital camera in your cell phone, an MP3 player, or Email access? These are all features you should consider. What do you need and what do you not need? Write a list to have on hand with you so you can tell the employee what features you need in your phone.
Which Carrier to use? Do you have a preferred carrier in your area? If so, this would be the place to start to view their selection of phones. You should have a good idea of what you are looking for by this point and any employee should be able to help narrow down your selection with your list of information. Remember though that if their selection doesn't suit your needs than you can pay a visit to the other carriers in the area. Do not be afraid to shop around!
If you take the time to research and figure out what you are indeed looking for than the search for the perfect Cell Phone will be much more attainable, and most importantly fun! Take a little extra time, and you'll be happy you did.
