How to Choose the Perfect Summer Fragrance

Regina Paul
Choosing the perfect fragrance for the Summer months isn't as hard as you might think. In fact I know people who actually think that they don't need to change fragrances once the weather warms up! The truth is though that it is a good idea to switch fragrances once the weather warms up because fragrances worn in the winter months tend to be heavier, warmer, spicier and muskier smelling and will weigh you down once Summer arrives.

One thing to keep in mind when choosing a fragrance for Summer is that you need to test out a fragrance by putting it on before buying it. Body chemistry affects the way a fragrance smells on anyone's skin. So, what might smell marvelous on your friend may not smell so marvelous on you.

There are a number of light and fruity scents out this Summer which may be just the thing if you are in the market for a new Summer fragrance. For example Dolce and Gabana Light & Blue which has a luscious scent while not being overpowering. Or Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden which has a delightful fruity scent. It does need to be reapplied now and again, but the carefree, and uplifting scent is worth it.

However, if you do not care for fruity scents, there are are also floral scents which can be very nice for a Summer fragrance. A few examples for these are 24 Faubourg Summer Fragrance by Hermes. This fragrance is made from orange blossoms, Sambac jasmine, vanilla and ambergris, and it has very good staying power. Another great example of a floral scent that you might choose for your Summer fragrance is Bora Bora by Liz Claiborne. This wonderful scent also comes at very reasonable price at under $10. It has a fantastic flowery scent that is not overpowering, but lasts for longer periods as well.

Another thing to take into account when choosing a Summer fragrance is that perfumes and eau-de-parfums are only really good for winter with their heavier more cloying scents. For Summer it is best to choose colognes and eau-de-toilettes which while may needing to be reapplied more often will also be more likely to have that light and fun scent that you are looking for in the Summer months.

Tired of having to reapply your Summer fragrance? Why not layer your fragrance then? What I mean by this is often you can get shower gel, body lotion or even powder with the same scent as your favorite Summer fragrance. While this can mean a little more expense, it will help you to keep your Summer fragrance going for longer periods. If you start out using the scent in the shower and then using body lotion or even powder before apply your Summer fragrance, this will help you not to have to keep reapplying your fragrance throughout the day. Another perk about using scented powder is that it helps to keep your skin dryer throughout the day. Since sweating is a fact of life in the Summer months, this can definitely be a boon.

Choosing a Summer fragrance doesn't have to be anymore difficult than putting away your Winter clothes into storage and taking out your Summer clothes if you know what to look for. By keeping these things in mind when shopping for your Summer fragrance, you will find a fragrance that is just right for you!
