How to Choose Preschool Homeschool Curriculum

Brenda Hoffman
Whenever you are searching for a preschool curriculum, you will find a lot of people have a lot of different opinions. One thing that is important to remember is that there is no single curriculum that will work well for everyone. This is mainly due to the fact that children enter preschool at different ages. Some children are as young as three years old and thus they are not as cognitively or emotionally ready as a four year old child. As such, choices need to be individualized.

With this in mind, you will want to look at how rigid the curriculum is. Since you will be homeschooling your preschooler, you can tailor it to meet your child's interests. This type of flexibility is good since it will be difficult to find any two children who are developmentally the same at this age.

You will also want a preschool curriculum that allows your child to explore a lot of different things. For instance, you may wish to find a curriculum that allows your child to explore art and music. These topics can be very enjoyable for your preschooler. Socialization skills will also be especially important at this age because this is when they will learn how to interact with others - something that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. So, make sure that your child has plenty of opportunities to learn what it is like to be with other children and around other adults too.

While all of these things are important, it is just as important to allow your preschooler to have some time to do his own thing. After all, preschool is a time when kindergarten readiness is being built and part of this readiness is encouraging independence and developing his own individual strengths. As such, your preschooler really does need some time for his own activities.

It is not only assumed that preschoolers will have good social skills when entering kindergarten but that they will know their alphabet and basic numbers. Keep this in mind because these things were actually taught in kindergarten in the past but not anymore.
