How to Choose a Refrigerator

What to Consider when Buying a Fridge

Chad R. Herman
There are many appliances that are in a modern day house that one rarely thinks about changing, replacing, or buying for that matter. A few of these is a stove, hot water heater, or even an Air Conditioner Unit. It floors many people to think that people leaving a house when selling it, has the option to take their appliances with them. It was a true shock for me to walk into a potential house I was going to buy, and find no appliances in the kitchen. The only explanation we get to such a shocking site is that the price has been reduced in consideration of this. Like they're going to give us a check to go purchase them right away. One of those grand appliances is the refrigerator. But you must take great care in buying a "fridge".

When you're buying a refrigerator there are a lot of things to think about. You have to decide what your kitchen is going to ultimately look like, and question as to whether this look you pick for the fridge will exist throughout the home's transformation through the years. One thing many people don't think about when buying a Fridge is that this is an appliance that will be in your family till you move out, or about the average 15 years that most people keep their refrigerator. Other things to consider are color, look, appearance, and most importantly ease of use. This is an appliance that used on a daily basis, and most of the time 6 to 8 times a day. Think about how many times you lean up against it, open he door, close the door, reach and grab a snack or even just a drink. Think back tot he many pieces of art work that will be displayed on this, and how it will look on this fridge. A nice clean stainless steel look is wonderful to view along with the other pieces of the kitchen, but when it comes right down to it, there's only one question to ask: Will this refrigerator fit all of my family's needs, and will it be an asset to the appearance and workings of the kitchen?

The fridge has changed since you last looked for a fridge over a decade ago (if you're like the average fridge consumer), so you will notice a few added features inside of your fridge. Not only do they have side by side, above and below, but many also have a below level deep freeze. In addition, the water that makes your ice and drips your water can be purified to any level, with any name brand filter, as well had flavor added to it. Not only that, dual level lighting, humidity controlled drawer, and even glass french doors to open it. Your family deserves convenience, and functionality in your every day kitchen experience. Put in some time before buying your next refrigerator. And a last word of caution, try it out by putting it through the courses, to see how you like bending down in it's crevice where the last piece of pie always lands in the middle of the night.

My last purchase was the type with the freezer on the bottom, and I love it. I spend much more time in the refrigerator portion, and now I never have to bend way down to see what's in the back of the shelves.
