How to Choose the Right Pillow

When buying pillows most customers will simply go to Wal-mart and pick out a cheap pillow thinking that most of them are pretty similar. Just like any other product pillows have become more advanced over the years giving consumers many options to choose from. Not long ago choosing a pillow consisted of feather pillows or cotton pillows but now there are many different types based mainly on the type of sleeper.

As science gets more advanced scientists are learning more about health and safety. For anyone that sleeps on their stomach the biggest concern is doing damage to the back. Anyone that sleeps on their stomach and uses a thick pillow will arch the back and sleeping this way night after night could do damage. To avoid arching back every night a stomach sleeper should choose a flat pillow.

A side sleeper can also do a lot of damage to their spine. Any time someone sleeps on their side the spine will not be straight without the right kind of protection. To start with a side sleeper needs to choose a puffy pillow to keep their head off the bed to try and keep the head level with the body and keep the spine straight. To properly keep the spine straight a side sleeper could also use a leg-spacer pillow an extra long pillow to place along the stomach.

Sleeping on the back is recommended by most doctors. Sleeping on the back is the most likely position to keep the spine straight. For back sleepers all that is required is a medium sized pillow that will prevent the head from being too low to the bed but also won't push up on the head too much either.

There are also many other options such as customizable pillows. For example, the Stress Ease Support Pillow has a concave cent support that allows support for many positions. The Water-Filled Pillow can also be adjusted by adding or removing water to give the user the perfect shape that is needed based on their sleeping positions.

There are also many therapeutic pillows for any sleepers that are trying to relieve pain. In addition to having an adjustable size, the Water-Filled Pillow can have either hot or cold water depending on which is more comforting to the user. There is also a Gelly Roll Pillow that has a gel pack that can be removed and then either heated in the microwave or frozen and returned to the pillow.
