How to Choose the Right Type of Exercise for You

Lance Esondi
Sometimes when you want to get back into shape, it's difficult to know what type of exercise you should be doing or really want to be doing. There are so many options and programs today that you can easily get paralyzed with options. Picking something that works for you is important or else you won't be exercising as much. What should you be looking for?

First off, you should find something that you can realistically do, not just for your weight loss but for your long term health. Many people take on these monolithic exercise programs to quickly burn fat and build muscle that takes hours of dedication each day for a set period of months. This is too stressful. This is why so many people quit and give up exercise programs. It needs to be realistic.

Whatever you choose, you are going to have to start off slow and easy. If you want to jog, for example, start off with small walks at first and build up endurance as well as the habit. Make sure that you are really getting into it and enjoying the process.

If you are the type of person who doesn't have much motivation, exercising on your own might be a disaster. You are going to need additional help. Try going to scheduled fitness classes where there is a set start and end time. This makes it easier to go when you have a set time versus whenever you get around to it. If you can't keep this schedule, find a friend who will motivate you to continue.

If you start to struggle and get bored with your exercise plans, change it up and do fun things. Many people get frequent exercise with fun activities such as golf, tennis, hiking, soccer and other games and sports. You will be burning calories and getting in shape without the boring monotony that you feel when working out with cardio machines.

Try to give a variety of programs a try first before making up your mind. While you might like something, you could find something that you enjoy better.
