How to Choose a Wiccan Name Using Numerology

Many followers of Wicca choose a magic or Wiccan name to use within the craft. This Wiccan name is a name that you choose and is by no means a necessity. However, many Wiccans like to take a Wiccan name to symbolize their rebirth as a witch, as an outward symbol of their devotion to Wicca and/or just to add a little mystery to their workings.

The most important reason for adopting a Wiccan name is that is represents the Wiccan you. The use of a Wiccan name may also help you in shifting consciousness and putting you in a magical state of mind for ritual.

There are many ways to find a Wiccan name. The most popular and magical of the ways to choose a Wiccan name is to use numerology. To use numerology to find a Wiccan name you will begin by finding your birth number. If you don't know your birth number this is simply remedied.

First, write down your date of birth using only numbers. For example, my date of birth is May 13, 1983 so I would write 5-13-1983. Make sure you include the "19" in the date. Next, you simply need to add those numbers together. In my case I would add 5 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 3 = 30. Next simplify the answer to a single number. 3 + 0 = 3. This makes my birth number 3.

After you have found your birth number, you need only to find a name that matches your birth number. Any name with a matching number will resonate with you magically, making it a wonderful choice for a Wiccan name.

The easiest way to do this is to begin with a name that you like. I really love the name Luna for a Wiccan name but how do I know if it is right for me using numerology? First you'll want to make a chart like the one below using the numbers 1 - 9 and all the letters of the alphabet.

Next, you would find the numbers that correspond with your chosen Wiccan name. I have chosen the name Luna. Therefore, my equation would look like this:

L = 3, U = 3, N = 5, A= 1

Now we'll add these numbers together and see what we get.

3 + 3 + 5 + 1 = 12

Now we need to simplify this to a single digit.

1 + 2 = 3

As you can see, this name matches my birth number, making it a perfect choice for my Wiccan name. If you choose a name that doesn't match your birth number the first time, try changing the spelling to make it even more unique or try different names until you find one that works.

Of course, this is not a necessity. If you have your heart set on a specific Wiccan name and it doesn't work out using numerology, don't feel that you can't use it. This is only one method of finding a Wiccan name. However, keep in mind that by matching a Wiccan name with your birth number, the name will be very powerful for you.

There are many places in which to start searching for a Wiccan name. Flower, plant and gemstone names are very popular. Some Wiccans choose a Wiccan name of a favored God or Goddess but others find this practice disrespectful (myself included). You can use traditional Celtic or Gaelic names or even make up a name of your own if you wish. There are no limits on finding your own Wiccan name. I would recommend steering clear of overused names such as Merlin, Amber, Morgan, Phoenix, Raven, etc. You want your Wiccan name to be unique to you.

Once you have chosen a Wiccan name, always use this name in ritual. Write it in your book of shadows, on your tools, etc. Some Wiccans choose to keep their Wiccan name secret and reveal it only to members of their coven or to no one at all. Some see the name as a private matter revealed only to the God and Goddess and some use it publicly, as I do. The choice is yours. Do whatever makes you comfortable and good luck finding your Wiccan name!

    I want to have a wiccan name as well But I'm thinking to just stick with Luna as my wiccan name.
