How I Chose My Career

Amanda Kidd
Thirty-one years ago in elementary school, my teacher approached me and stated, "Amanda, you have beautiful writing (calligraphy), but if you want a grade, make it legible." I have instinctive, flamboyant penmanship, which was my first indication that I'd probably be a pen pusher. Later in life my mom, the late Deborah Ann Hardy, penned me a message as she sat downstairs from me and I thought why didn't she just dialogue with me? I believe the good Lord spoke through my mother, because shortly after, I was writing epistles to individuals who offended me, including my boyfriend, family or friends. I pursued my education while exploring jobs and goals starting with cosmetology, nail technician, nurse's aid, tutoring children, private investigation, child psychology, day care facility, including mastering the ASVAB military test, prepared to join the Army National Guard (oops, but got pregnant). I attempted to write 14 years ago, but I was doleful and vexed so I discarded the book.

In 2003, I believe God whacked me in my cortex and said, Amanda, you're a writer girlfriend. It weighed heavy on my heart so I stated to my husband, "I'm a writer," he glared at me with skepticism and asked, "Are you serious this time, you want to be a writer?" My husband approached me with a surprise. He said, "Here honey, I retrieved the book and hid it, I knew you were a writer." In 2006, I was self seeking and dedicated my life to writing. I self published my first book through my publishing company, a difficult but self fulfilling accomplishment. So my second book was published through another publishing company. I have 12 copyrights on books, including screenplays, a sit com, and greeting cards (in my calligraphy) coming soon. I knew I was a writer in 5th grade. There were many trials and tribulations that deterred my dreams, but with perseverance you can succeed at whatever your heart desires. That's the key; choose your career based on your heart. If you love to bake cookies get the dough, because you'll never be satisfied until you operate under the gifts that God gave you. I was born a writer and I will die a writer.
