How Should Christians Apologetically Relate to the World Around Them?

The Great Commission, Presuppositionalism and Worldview

Jared Moore
I can interact with the world around me through apologetics by being willing to do whatever is necessary to pave the way for individuals to hear the Gospel. Each method of apologetics is useful, but I lean toward the presuppositional approach. Evidentialism then is useful only to show the unbeliever that he is borrowing from Christianity in order to make his argument. Christianity is the only worldview that can account for its presupposed foundation. Due to this truth every worldview borrows from us even to argue. We must show them their worldview is inconsistent with its professed foundation. Then, we can bring them over into our worldview showing them how the Triune God of Christianity can account for His creation.

Every decision that is made on earth by a human being is made based on a worldview. Whatever "glasses" they're looking through will determine every decision they make. It's presently argued in our country that religion and politics don't mix. Well, every decision is a religious decision. Either the Christian God exists or He doesn't; and if He does, then this is His world, we're just living in it, and His world can only be rightly understood in light of Him. So, therefore, the concept of government was created by Him for His glory... if He exists; and we know He does.

Because this is God's world and we're just living in it, our worldviews can address everything that comes down the pipe; from abortion, divorce, homosexuality, children of Caesar, evolution, transsexualism, etc., all of these must be seen through the lens of Christ. We must take every thought captive to obedience to Christ.

As far as my style being either "defensive," "defeatist" or "devotional", I don't believe I fit any of these. I unfortunately haven't engaged my culture enough. Whenever I do engage it, I deal mainly with "cultural Christians" who lack a Christian worldview, but believe they're saved because they were raised in church or prayed a prayer 20 years ago. I therefore must slowly give them the Word of God showing them the life-changing Gospel of Christ.

The goal is must be to share the Gospel with everyone. In order to do this, I need to apply all of these truths. The first step is going. If God is sovereign, then I must view the people around me as a missionary field. I'm in my subdivision to exalt Christ by sharing the Gospel with everyone. I must be evangelism-minded. If my goal is to make disciples, then the above truths will be like drinking water, or sleeping, or breathing. I must be so intentional that no one who comes into contact with me can ever say, "He didn't try to warn me with fear and trembling!" This is how all Christians must live! For God's glory alone!
