It is important to start planning early; hopefully the early Christmas cheer in the shopping outlets will remind you. Christmas is December 25, but you may not want to have your party on the exact day. It may be good to have your party the week before Christmas and sometimes earlier. Knowing this planning should began at least two weeks before the day of the party.
When you plan your guest list make sure you don't invite too many people for the space that you have. You wouldn't want your party shut down because you are breaking the fire codes. (I've been to a party and the renters were about to be evicted) Keep your budget in mind you may or may not be able to feed many people. Try to minimize to close friends and/or family.
Once your guest list is definite, then invite. Due to the fact that the invitees have lives of there own you may want to do this immediately so that they can plan. Special invitations are not necessary here. You can email your guests to invite them or just call. Remember to tell them if the party is casual or formal. You wouldn't want your friends to feel bad because they arrived in jeans and every one else has on dress slacks. If you have the extra funds then splurge on invitations or be creative and make invitations. To ease unexpected dilemmas indicate to guests whether dates or others can come as well. Remember how many people you can handle.
As mentioned before it would be good to work with a budget for your party. If you can afford catering, then deli-platters or vegetable platters are good choices. Many people generally enjoy chips, cookies and soda, which is a lot cheaper. Decide whether you want alcohol at your party. Sometimes parties tend to get out of control when people have too many drinks. You know your friends and family so keep that in mind. You wouldn't want anyone getting into accidents or just making a fool of themselves after drinking themselves silly.
It would be good to budget for decorations. You could find enjoyment out of making decorations. Also check thrift stores and dollar stores, these places always have the best cheap decorations. You my not even feel that you need decorations, but it could give your party that special touch that you friends may enjoy. You may have decorations that become party favors for your friends.
You may want to have some ideas as to what your friends will be doing at the party. (I went to a party and everyone was just looking each other bored.) Have games planned or some sort of activity, just as long if it's legal. You may even have a gift exchange or secret Santa. In the invitations ask you friends to bring a gift costing no more than five dollars. Then exchange or pick names from a hat to exchange. This can really be fun.
If you follow the steps above I am sure your desired Christmas party won't come out bad. These tips can also be used for any other party theme, like perhaps New Year's. Remember to have fun and try to keep things in order. Good luck and let the partying begin.
