Get the family in the spirit. If you have a spouse and children, the easiest way to get Christmas going this year is to involve the spouse and kids in some Christmas activities. Try some drawing, coloring and ornament making to start with. Homemade snowflakes out of paper are easy to make and you can hang a few on the tree as well! Then as Christmas approaches try reading some Christmas stories and watch some Christmas movies. My personal favorite Christmas movie is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, it's a classic! If you decorate for Christmas have everyone help.
Shopping can always wipe out even the most patient. Shop at off times and try to avoid the most visited places such as malls. The hassle in most cases is not worth it. Shop at smaller shopping centers and plan ahead so you spend you time effectively.
Cooking is my favorite way to get into the spirit. My mom always makes M&M cookies every Christmas. Come up with you own family favorite and you'll get better at making it each year. Don't be afraid to get the kids involved. Children love to help cook and this is a good time to teach cooking lessons and basic kitchen safety. Search online for recipes and you'll be pre-heating that oven in no time.
One of the most rewarding ways to get into the Christmas spirit is to spend quality time with family, friends, and relatives, especially the ones you don't see much. Spend a day with that cousin or uncle that you really like but never get the time to. I always enjoying see my cousin that I grew with during Christmas because it's really the only time we see each.
Also don't forget the less fortunate. There are plenty of ways to help out. Churches are one of the best ways to find people in need. Whether it's a ride, donating food, or just spending time with people in nursing homes, you'll get much more than you give this way. It is the season of giving and time is the most valuable asset to some people.
Don't forget yourself here. You're still human and have needs, so give in a little and maybe sneak in that gift you've been eying all year. Follow all or some of this tips and you'll feel like a kid again on Christmas morning this year.
