How to Circumvent Credit Card Debt Before it Creeps Up on You

Keith Dailey
During such challenging economic times, it makes it virtually mandatory to acquire a credit card, but the nightmare comes when credit card bills start to accumulate. If you are just getting started and testing the waters in the credit card world, you must know the rules of the game, lest you get thrown off balance, for many years, if not decades. Paying up a credit card debt for decades is humiliating to say the least, bearing in mind almost all of your money will be going down to credit interest that won't buy you any new clothes or any food.

This is not to say that a credit card is a bad idea, it actually comes in handy at times. Life is very easy with a credit card; you can charge your gas at the pump, groceries at the stores without using any cash. But while this makes life easy, you can have a very huge bill during end month. If for whatever reason you are unable to pay off the bill at the end of the month, trouble starts creeping in.

A secret that no credit card company will tell you is that when you use a credit card, regardless of the amount, it is an unsecured loan in its own right hence you have to pay back everything. That said, you can use the credit card conscientiously in the process of building up a good credit score which will benefit you in the long run. The first thing you can do is to save each receipt, and always keep a record when you use the credit card. This will help you because you will be able to counter check with your bill each month.

The secret to having your credit mess under control is to pay off the credit card every month. While it may not be a bad idea to let the debt float from one month to another, the accumulation will spell havoc because it builds your credit score and credit history, which will be very vital to you in future if you would want to make a big purchase. The best thing is to stay a step ahead of your credit, by always updating yourself with what is going on with your credit card and using it responsibly.
