The first thing you need to do is collect the supplies and equipment you will need to clean your cedar siding. You need a power washer, scrub brush, cleaning detergent and some bleach, rubber gloves, and a bucket. Power washers can either be purchased or rented. You can find them in home improvement and hardware stores. Or if you don't want to use a power washer you can just use your garden hose.
Your next step is to mix the cleaning solution you are going to use to clean your cedar siding. Mix approximately one quarter cup of bleach to every gallon of warm water you use. Make sure that you wear rubber gloves to prevent the bleach from burning your skin.
Scrub the cedar siding thoroughly using your cleaning solution and scrub brush. You should start at the top of the house and work your way down. Only scrub a section at a time so that your cleaning solution doesn't dry on the cedar siding.
After you finish scrubbing one section, rinse the cleaning solution off the cedar siding with your power washer. The power washer should be set on a very gentle setting so that you don't damage the cedar. Spray back and forth across the cedar siding, starting at the top and going down. This lets the water run down the side of the house.
Repeat the process of scrubbing and cleaning one section and then rinsing it off with the power washer until you have thoroughly cleaned all of your house's cedar siding.
Cleaning cedar siding is a relatively easy do it yourself home project. All you need is a power washer or hose, a brush and cleaning solution, and a few hours of your time. You should clean your cedar siding at least once or twice a year to keep it well maintained and clean.
