There are many quick and easy ways to keep diamonds clean. You have the option of buying professional jewelry cleaning solution and allowing the diamond to soak. There is also the option of having the jewelry professionally cleaned by a jeweler. On the other hand, you may choose the least expensive approach, and clean diamond jewelry using a home concoction.
Unfortunately, many people do not properly care for their diamonds. This is often times hard to fathom, especially since diamonds are very expensive and treasured pieces. If you choose to clean your diamonds at home, consider the following steps to ensuring luster.
Supplies:
• Dish Bowl
• Dishwater Detergent
• Old Toothbrush
• Soft Cloth
• Warm Water
• Windex (optional)
Step 1: Fill a small dish bowl with warm soapy water. Avoid harsh chemicals such as laundry detergent or bath gels. Dish washing detergent is gently and more appropriate.
Step 2: Remove diamond rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Place the jewelry is the soapy water. If this is the first cleaning, allowing the jewelry to soak for at least 30 minutes. Subsequent cleanings only require a soaking time of 10 minutes.
Step 3: Remove jewelry from water. Using a small toothbrush, gently scrub the diamond jewelry and metal (gold, silver, platinum).
Step 4: Rinse the diamond with hot water.
Step 5: If necessary, repeat steps 2 - 4.
Step 6: For extra shine, soak the diamond jewelry in Windex following each cleaning.
To maintain shine, diamond jewelry should be cleaned at least once a week. Of course, properly caring for diamonds involves more than routine cleaning. To protect the metal and diamond from surface scratches, keep the jewelry stored in a jewelry box, preferably a box with a soft surface. Moreover, examine prongs regularly. Due to snagging, the prongs securing the diamond can become weak. If left unfixed, the diamond could become loose and fall out.

Post a CommentNice article. I would agree with just about everything except the use of a toothbrush on gold, silver and platinum because it can scratch it. I use Silvermate liquid silver cleaner to clean all my silver in my restaurants and all my silver and gold at my home. It is 96% water so it is very mild. www.silvermatecompany.com is their website and you can check them out for yourself. Thanks..
